KT announced on the 12th that it will participate in the '3GPP RAN (Radio Access Network) Release-19 Workshop' held during the 100th 3GPP Technical Plenary in Taiwan until the 16th.
3GPP is an international cooperation organization for mobile communication standardization, and from this workshop, it will begin developing standard technologies for 5G Advanced enhancement. 5G Advanced is the next-generation 5G technology expected to serve as a benchmark for new wireless technologies in preparation for the 6G era.
At the workshop, KT will present directions for 5G-Advanced technology. The newly proposed technologies include ▲priority research on AI/ML and RIS, which are candidate technologies for 6G ▲support for UAM communication networks to expand B2C services and realization of mobile metaverse through XR device advancement ▲advancement of positioning technology and direct device-to-device communication for B2B and disaster safety environments.
These technologies could serve as foundational technologies not only for 5G Advanced but also for the future standardization of 6G, and are expected to be utilized to provide new services such as remote control using motion recognition and digital twins based on mobile devices in the 6G era.
Additionally, KT will introduce ways to expand 5G network power consumption reduction technologies at this workshop, applying them to devices and LTE base stations. KT also plans to propose the development of standards for technologies combining sensing and communication using low-power and zero-power components, emphasizing the necessity of reducing carbon emissions and the importance of ESG management.
Lee Jong-sik, Senior Vice President and Head of Infrastructure DX Research Institute at KT Convergence Technology Institute, said, "If we secure technologies that can overcome the current limitations of 5G and rapidly promote technology standardization, we expect to provide differentiated services from the start of 6G," adding, "We will provide differentiated services to customers by utilizing various 6G core technologies secured by KT."
