Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon posted a message and photo on his SNS on the 36th anniversary of the June 10 Democratic Uprising.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon pointed out that the government's absence from the 36th anniversary event of the June 10 Democratic Uprising is a clear sign that South Korea is becoming divided and diminished.
On the 10th, Governor Kim wrote on his social media (SNS), "(Today is) the 36th anniversary of the June 10 Democratic Uprising," and began by saying, "South Korea's democracy owes a great deal to the June 10 Democratic Uprising."
He continued, "In the heated June of 1987, the hearts of all citizens yearning for democracy united as one, and we honor their dedication and sacrifice," adding, "The current constitutional system is a product of the June 10, 1987 uprising."
In particular, he stated, "(Through the June 10 Uprising) we won the direct presidential election system, and President Yoon Suk-yeol is the eighth president under that system," criticizing, "The government, which has emphasized the protection of the constitutional order, not attending today's commemorative event is self-contradictory and petty."
Furthermore, he claimed, "During the one year of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, South Korea is shrinking," explaining, "Politics is trapped in factional logic, dividing people into enemies and allies; diplomacy has lost balance and is hostile toward some countries; the economy is divided by antagonizing the labor camp; and society is heading toward division and conflict."
Governor Kim emphasized, "The government's absence from today's June 10 democratic event is a clear sign of the reality of a divided and shrinking South Korea," and stressed, "While reflecting on the spirit of the June 10 Democratic Uprising, we must unite the hearts of the people to overcome the 1987 system that has lasted 36 years and move toward the future."
