Dobong-gu’s 50th anniversary celebration week will be held throughout July with various festivals and programs involving culture, sports, and arts for residents
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) will hold a series of commemorative projects and festivals celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dobong-gu’s establishment, together with the residents who have shaped Dobong’s 50-year history.
Earlier, the district selected the slogan “50 Years of Growth, 100 Years of Future, Together with Dobong!” and formed and operated the Dobong-gu 50th Anniversary Festival TF, working groups, and festival promotion committees to discover 13 commemorative projects and 6 commemorative festivals.
The first event, “DOBONG, Midsummer Night Festival,” will be held on July 1 at 7:30 PM at Duksung Women’s University Hananuri Hall.
This festival will be composed of Part 1, a commemorative ceremony, and Part 2, a spectacular performance, inviting 3,400 people including members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, private organizations cooperating with district administration, related institutions, and residents, enhancing the meaning of unity in Dobong-gu.
The Part 1 ceremony will proceed with a joint performance by the Dobong-gu Art Troupe and a 50th anniversary hologram performance, followed by the national anthem, guest speeches, screening of the 50th anniversary commemorative video, awarding of Dobong-gu residents, appointment of special ambassadors, and unveiling of the district brand song and character.
Part 2 will feature congratulatory performances by local cultural artists Underdog Band and popular singers Song Ga-in and Kim Da-hyun, promising unforgettable emotions for the residents.
Side events will begin at 3 PM around Duksung Women’s University Art Hall, including experience programs, Mamas Dream’s flea market, food trucks, and busking by local cultural artists, offering a variety of food and entertainment.
In particular, Roof Media (CEO Sung Won-ho) will hold a free colorization event using AI technology, restoring old photos brought by residents into color photo files, creating meaningful memories for the residents.
The district will conduct advance reservations for Dobong-gu residents who wish to participate starting from 10 AM on June 12 via the Dobong-gu website or phone.
For residents who miss the reservation and people from other areas, about 420 seats will be prepared at Duksung Women’s University Art Hall to watch the event live, and it will also be broadcast live online through Dobong-gu’s official YouTube channel “DobongBong TV.”
On the day of the event, from 4 PM, on-site ticket booths will verify advance reservations and residency in Dobong-gu, and upon confirmation, admission tickets (wristbands) will be distributed. Advance reservation holders must present the reservation confirmation text message and identification proving that both themselves and one accompanying person are Dobong-gu residents. Admission will be allowed from 6 PM and will operate on a free seating basis.
Additionally, the district will operate the Dobong-gu 50th Anniversary Celebration Week throughout July. Various events will be held, including Dobong-gu Art Troupe performances (July 7), local cultural artists’ empathy concert (July 8), hair dyeing volunteer service with Dong Sung Pharmaceutical (July 8), traditional market and local restaurant discount events (1st to 3rd day of the celebration week), Dobong Education Forum (July 14), 50th anniversary cultural forum (July 15), Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra “Our Neighborhood Concert” (July 26), letter writing contest and time capsule creation (during July), and more.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We have prepared various festivals to celebrate Dobong-gu’s 50th anniversary with our residents. I hope families, friends, and couples enjoy the festivals and create many happy memories together.” He added, “Marking 50 years since establishment, we are planning and promoting various projects to remember the past 50 years and move toward the next 100 years. We will strive to make Dobong-gu not only the northeastern hub of Seoul but also the center of Seoul.”
