Small-Scale Welfare Facilities ... Providing Meal Management Support Including Visit Guidance

Busan City will open an additional center in Busanjin-gu on July 1, operating a total of three Social Welfare Meal Management Support Centers.

Busan City Social Welfare Meal Management Support, Additional Busanjin-gu Center Opened Busan City Hall.

To this end, the city has additionally selected the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology as the entrusted operator of the Busan Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center.

The Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center is newly established separately within the infrastructure of the Child Meal Management Support Center.

It provides meal management support services such as hygiene and nutrition visits by professional nutritionists, customized meal plans tailored to health conditions, and dietary education for target groups including cooks and caregivers at small-scale welfare facilities.

The Social Welfare Meal Management Support Centers have been gradually increasing since the pilot operation of seven centers nationwide in 2019. In Busan, following the opening of centers in Saha-gu and Haeundae-gu last year, the Busanjin-gu center will be additionally opened from July this year, operating a total of three centers.

As of the end of last year, the Busan Social Welfare Meal Management Support Centers managed a total of 38 social welfare meal sites (30 for the elderly, 8 for the disabled), conducting 537 visits for on-site guidance, 122 on-site support sessions, and 415 dietary education sessions.

The support targets of the Social Welfare Meal Management Support Centers are meal sites in elderly and disabled welfare facilities with fewer than 50 people. Upon submitting an application form to the respective center, a management registration certificate is issued, and professional nutritionist support services can be received.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “With the opening of the Busanjin-gu center, it is expected that higher quality meal management support will be possible for small-scale welfare facilities that lack nutritionists and have vulnerabilities not only in nutrition but also in hygiene.” He added, “Our city will continue to expand the Social Welfare Meal Management Support Centers and make greater efforts to create a safe meal environment for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and disabled.”
