Over 600 United, Gathering Strong Will to Establish Medical School
A rally to promote the establishment of the College of Medicine at the National Changwon University was held on the afternoon of the 9th at the CWNU Gaon Hall on the first floor of the Changwon University Global Lifelong Learning Center.
The rally was attended by President Lee Ho-young, representatives of university member organizations, faculty and staff, Kim Jae-heung, president of the general alumni association and former presidents, current students and alumni, lawmakers Kang Ki-yoon, Kim Young-sun, Park Jin-hyun, Jeong Soon-wook, citizens of Changwon, and residents of Gyeongnam Province, totaling about 600 people.

The rally, which began with a performance by the Changwon University student cheering squad Phoenix, featured a video expressing the voices of current students, including the student council, wishing for the establishment of the Changwon University College of Medicine.
The students emphasized, “Gyeongnam Changwon Special City is the only non-metropolitan city with a population of over one million that does not have a medical school, causing young people who dream of becoming doctors to move to other regions. The establishment of the Changwon University College of Medicine is not just for Changwon University but a necessity to protect the lives and health of future generations in this region.”
Lawmakers Kang and Kim, along with President Kim of the general alumni association, also promised continuous cooperation, saying, “We have been striving for the establishment of a medical school for over 30 years, so this time, let’s definitely achieve the establishment of the Changwon University College of Medicine together.”
On this day, Changwon University announced a resolution for the establishment of the College of Medicine.
Through this, they urged ▲ immediate promotion of the establishment of the Changwon University College of Medicine ▲ presentation of a vision to reduce the gap in medical services and improve medical quality between the metropolitan area and local regions ▲ prevention of local talent outflow and securing young talent through the establishment of the Changwon University College of Medicine ▲ promotion and completion of related pledges by the Yoon Seok-yeol administration ▲ active promotion of the medical school establishment by the governor of Gyeongnam Province, Changwon City, lawmakers, and leaders.
Afterwards, all attendees flew paper airplanes carrying their wishes for the establishment of the medical school and held a cheering event holding papers printed with the relevant phrases.

President Lee said, “Patients in emergency situations lose their lives while searching for hospitals to receive treatment, there are no doctors willing to support local medical centers even if offered hundreds of millions of won, and there are no public health doctors working in the region. The fundamental reason for these phenomena, where patients flock to metropolitan hospitals, is the absolute shortage of doctors.”
He continued, “Our Changwon University will not stop efforts to establish a medical school to train doctors so that local residents can receive treatment anytime,” adding, “Together with the 80,000-strong Changwon University family, 3.3 million residents of Gyeongnam Province, and 1.04 million citizens of Changwon City, we will do everything possible until the establishment of the National Changwon University College of Medicine is realized.”
