Non-Regular Workers' Union Plans 'Sleep-Out Protest'... Police State "Dispersal Procedures Possible"

According to the police on the 9th, the Seoul Seocho Police Station responded in this manner to the cooperation request submitted by the 'Irregular Workers Stop Now Joint Struggle' on the 7th regarding the two-day, one-night event near the Supreme Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

The police's position is that events aimed at publicly expressing joint opinions related to trials pending at the Supreme Court fall under assemblies that require notification under the Assembly and Demonstration Act.

A police official stated, "If an unreported assembly is held that could affect the trial or infringe upon the court's functions and public order, dispersal procedures may be carried out according to the law if necessary. If a specific group occupies public places such as roads or parks for extended periods to conduct collective overnight protests, it violates current laws such as the Road Act and raises serious concerns about disorder and harm to citizens. Therefore, we urge the withdrawal of plans for collective overnight protests."

Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, also stated on the 30th of last month, "If illegal assemblies are forcibly held under the pretext of nighttime cultural festivals or if illegal assemblies continue in the form of collective overnight protests causing inconvenience to citizens, dispersal measures will be taken."

Meanwhile, the irregular workers' group also engaged in nighttime actions in front of the Supreme Court on the 25th of last month but were stopped by the police. Currently, cases related to 'Irregular Workers Stop Now Joint Struggle' involving illegal dispatch issues with Asahi Glass, Korea GM, Hyundai Motor Company, and Hyundai Steel are pending at the Supreme Court.
