Hotels.com Survey of Partners in 10 Countries
3 out of 10 Choose Chicken... Pasta Dishes Rank 2nd
Popular Menu in 10 Countries is 'Burger'... Many Orders at 7 PM
Global hotel guests chose 'hamburger' as their most preferred room service menu, but in Korea, 'chicken' overwhelmingly outpaced other foods.
According to the travel industry on the 11th, a recent survey conducted by the global accommodation booking platform 'Hotels.com' targeted 473 hotels offering room service in 10 countries including South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. The survey results showed that the most popular menu item was 'burger (39%)'. Additionally, respondents from hotel partners in the US, UK, Mexico, and Japan identified hamburgers as the menu item "least likely to be excluded" from room service in their respective countries.
Contrary to the global hotel industry survey results, the most frequently ordered room service menu item by guests staying at domestic hotels was 'fried chicken (32%)'. This was followed by 'pasta dishes (13%)'. 'Burger (11%)' tied with 'pizza (11%)' for third place, showing relatively less interest compared to other countries. Besides this, the luxury menu items most frequently mentioned by hotels in most countries were 'steak' and 'champagne'.
The time when room service is most frequently ordered worldwide is between '7 PM and 9 PM'. This trend was similar in domestic hotels, with 60% of respondents stating that they use room service most often between '7 PM and 10 PM'. Hotels.com stated, "We confirmed that domestic hotel guests have a strong preference for enjoying dinner or late-night snacks in their rooms." In contrast, the peak room service time in the US was '7 AM to 9 AM (65%)', showing a difference.
A notable survey result concerns what hotel staff hope from guests using room service. It was found that hotels in South Korea and Japan particularly emphasize the cleanliness of bedding. 53% of domestic hotel staff responded that they "hope guests do not eat food on the bed or sheets," and 32% followed with "hope guests do not order food that could stain or dirty the bedding." Hotel staff in Japan responded similarly to these items. Additionally, hotel staff worldwide answered that they "hope guests receive room service while wearing clothing (46%)" and that "more customers place trays and dishes outside the room for collection during cleaning (42%)," which also had a high response rate.
