A man in his 50s caught red-handed throwing cigarette butts at an interior design company with flammable materials

A man in his 50s who started a fire by throwing a cigarette butt on the floor in an interior design office containing volatile substances was arrested by the police.


According to a report compiled by Asia Economy on the 9th, the Yangcheon Police Station arrested a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on the 7th on suspicion of arson and is currently investigating.

Mr. A is accused of smoking a cigarette and throwing the cigarette butt on the floor in the office of an interior design company he operates in Yangcheon-gu, where a volatile substance, thinner, was stored, causing a fire. It is known that Mr. A himself reported the fire.


According to the Yangcheon Fire Station, the fire partially damaged the first floor of a commercial building, but there were no casualties. To extinguish the fire, 19 fire trucks, 2 ambulances, and 57 firefighters were dispatched. The fire department and police plan to conduct a joint investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.


Mr. A reportedly stated that he did throw the cigarette butt but did not intend to start a fire. It is understood that Mr. A was intoxicated at the time of the incident.


The police stated, "We are reviewing the application for an arrest warrant for Mr. A."
