Protecting SK Semiconductor Safety with Robot Dogs... SK Hynix-Dongguk University Research Agreement

Quadruped Robot, Hazard Prediction System, and More
Collaboration on In-House Safety Management Digital Transformation (SDX) Project

A four-legged robotic dog will inspect safety at SK Hynix workplaces.

SK Hynix announced on the 9th that it has signed a 'Smart Technology Joint Research Agreement' for industrial accident prevention with Dongguk University Convergence Research Center (CRC). The signing ceremony held the previous day at Dongguk University in Pildong, Seoul, was attended by CRC Director Im Jung-yeon and Kim Hyung-soo, Vice President in charge of Safety, Health, and Environment at SK Hynix.

Through this agreement, SK Hynix plans to advance its in-house Safety Digital Transformation (SDX) project. The main tasks of SDX include developing safety monitoring robots, artificial intelligence (AI) analysis, building Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, and implementing safety education metaverse.

The plan is to create synergy by applying crime prevention ICT (Information and Communication Technology) researched by CRC to the field of industrial safety. Technology development related to SDX is planned within this year.

The two organizations agreed to collaborate to achieve six goals: ▲ enhancing autonomous driving safety of four-legged robots at workplaces ▲ advancing AI algorithms for risk prediction systems ▲ strengthening real-time communication between robots and humans ▲ developing sensors for detecting hazardous material leaks ▲ developing sensors for identifying material components ▲ establishing a robot risk assessment system.

Director Im Jung-yeon said, "Thanks to SK Hynix's proposal, we can conduct socially meaningful research and development (R&D) together," adding, "We will cooperate to achieve significant results in the fields of industrial safety and crime prevention." Vice President Kim Hyung-soo stated, "We will do our best to enhance not only our company's industrial safety but also social crime prevention effects by integrating ICT," and added, "SK Hynix will continuously secure convergent technologies and strive to create a safe workplace."
