Hydrogen Car Nexo Model Year Update Released... Actual Purchase Price Down

Hyundai Motor Company launched the 2024 model year Nexo, a facelifted version, on the 9th. As the only hydrogen fuel cell passenger car in Korea, several optional features have been adjusted to reduce the burden on customers.

Previously, customers could choose between two trims, Modern and Premium, but now it has been unified into a single Premium trim. It is said that 97% of buyers chose the Premium trim. Instead, features that were standard in the Premium trim, such as the wide sunroof, roof rack, and 19-inch wheels and tires, have been changed to optional.

Additionally, features such as the after blow, which operates the motor to dry the air conditioner even after the engine is turned off, USB Type-C chargers, second-row safety power windows, and micro antibacterial filters have been included as standard. A new dark gray exterior color has also been added.

The price of the new model is 69.5 million KRW after tax benefits. Considering the Seoul city subsidy of 32.5 million KRW (22.5 million KRW from the national government and 10 million KRW from local governments), the actual amount to be paid is around 37 million KRW. Even considering the changes in options, the price has been lowered by several hundred thousand KRW.

The Nexo, which was released in March 2018, has sold 31,995 units domestically as of May this year. With an average annual sales volume of around 6,000 units, it is relatively low compared to the government’s annual supply target. Lack of charging infrastructure is cited as a major reason. The company plans to expand hydrogen charging infrastructure in various forms, including mobile hydrogen charging stations.
