Seongdong-gu Opens Pop-up Rest Area in Seongsu-dong Cafe Street

From the 16th to the 21st, part of the public parking lot along the Seongsu-dong cafe street will be transformed into a pedestrian rest area

On the first day of the event, the 16th, the 'Soso Brewery Market' featuring local alcohol content and a jazz performance will take place

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that from the 16th to the 21st, a six-day ‘Beneficial Road Campaign’ for pedestrians will be held on Seongsu-dong cafe street (Seongsu 2-ro).

The ‘Beneficial Road Campaign’ is a program that temporarily converts car-centered road spaces into pedestrian-friendly environments so that residents can experience a safe and pleasant walking environment.

Seongdong-gu, the Tmoney Welfare Foundation, and Soso City Co., Ltd. have signed an agreement to promote this as an ESG social contribution cooperative project.

This campaign will be held in relay following Seocho-gu and Gangnam-gu.

During the six-day campaign, part of the public parking lot along Seongsu-dong cafe street (Seongsu 2-ro) will be set up as a rest area. Chairs, tables, sunbeds, and flower pots will be arranged to create an atmosphere like being in a park, allowing pedestrians walking along the street to rest.

On the first day of the event, the 16th, the ‘Seongdong Brewery Union,’ which consists of local breweries, will hold the ‘Soso Brewery Market,’ where visitors can enjoy local alcohol culture. Additionally, a soothing jazz performance will be held at 3 p.m.

Seongdong-gu has been proactively promoting ESG-based policies along with this ESG social contribution cooperative project. In particular, last year, it became the first local government to develop the ‘Seongdong-type E+ESG Index,’ utilizing a total of 82 indicators in public sector policies and supporting ESG practice projects, advancing toward a sustainable city.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I hope this campaign will be a time to experience a pleasant walking environment and enjoy unique local culture,” and added, “We will continue to strive to create street environments where pedestrians can move safely and conveniently.”
