Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is attracting attention as the ‘Saemaeul Library Affordable Book Free Exchange Market’ opens for 3 days starting from the 7th.
The Saemaeul Library Gwangjin-gu Branch holds the ‘Affordable Book Free Exchange Market’ annually to expand the reading population and promote healthy leisure activities, creating a social atmosphere that brings good books closer to people.
The exchange market, boasting a total scale of about 2,800 books, consists of about 800 new books and about 2,000 books secured through donations or collections.
Anyone can exchange up to 3 books per person here, but the books to be exchanged must have been published since 2015 and must not be contaminated or damaged. However, textbooks, reference books, general magazines, and comic books are not eligible for exchange.
The exchange market held in front of Exit 5 of Gunja Station on the 7th saw a continuous flow of residents from the first day.
A resident who visited the exchange market said, “I was just passing by and saw that there were many good books for children, so I picked 3 books that we had finished reading at home and came back,” adding, “After the children finish reading, I want to participate in the book exchange again next year with these books.”
On the same day, Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, also visited the exchange market, greeted the Saemaeul Library Gwangjin-gu Branch volunteer group, and spent time browsing and selecting books.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin-gu said, “Thank you all for joining in making Gwangjin-gu a great place for reading,” and added, “Next year, we will consider a better location to hold the exchange market so that more people can participate.”
Gwangjin-gu is preparing to open the ‘Guui Station Smart Library’ on the 15th. The smart library, located inside Guui Station, features a book vending machine as well as unmanned reservation lending and book return services, which are expected to greatly improve residents’ access to books.
