The Democratic Party Launches Fierce Attack on Lee Jae-myung... "Must Apologize to the Public for 'Irae-gyeong Appointment'"

Kwon Chil-seung, Democratic Party Spokesperson, Urged to Be Stripped of Party Position

The leadership of the People Power Party on the 8th urged Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, to apologize for the appointment of Lee Raekyung as Honorary Chairman of Another Hundred Years. They also raised their voices demanding that Kwon Chil-seung, the Democratic Party’s chief spokesperson who made the ‘Cheonan ship remarks,’ be stripped of his party position.

Kim Ki-hyun, leader of the People Power Party, stated at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, “Leader Lee should apologize to the public before it is too late, and I reiterate that Kwon’s party position should be revoked along with severe disciplinary measures that meet the public’s expectations.”

Kim continued, “The Democratic Party, whose immorality has been clearly revealed through power-type corruption gates, money envelope scandals, and Kim Nam-guk’s coin gate, recently sparked public outrage by appointing a problematic figure who repeatedly made low-level remarks and offensive comments as the Innovation Committee Chair,” adding, “However, even after four days, Leader Lee has not even apologized to the public.”

Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, also said at the meeting, “It is astonishing how the leading opposition party of global Korea tried to recruit someone with such an outdated activist mindset as the Innovation Committee Chair,” and questioned, “Is the Democratic Party’s innovation regressing from the 2020s back to the 1980s?”

Kang Dae-sik, a Supreme Council member, criticized, “Like the old saying ‘a famous feast with nothing to eat,’ the Democratic Party’s Innovation Committee was nothing more and nothing less than a means to protect Leader Lee from the start,” and added, “Although expectations were low, Leader Lee, who is struggling to survive, has now fallen from being the subject of innovation to the target of reform.”

Kang further stated, “If Leader Lee was unaware of this conspiracy theorist’s past actions, it is incompetence; if he knew, it is deception of the people,” emphasizing, “What the Democratic Party truly needs to innovate is to join reforms of the Central Election Commission, which continues to face allegations of unfairness, and the legislative dictatorship in the National Assembly.”

Park Dae-chul, chairman of the Policy Committee, said, “Leader Lee, who appointed this honorary chairman as the Innovation Committee Chair, gave a fundamental answer that ‘the party leader takes unlimited responsibility for the results,’ but remained silent when reporters asked ‘how will you take responsibility?’ and ‘do you intend to apologize?’” He added, “Has the Democratic Party now run out of bulletproof resources and is trying to use smoke screens to hide its corruption?”

On the 5th, Lee Raekyung was appointed as the Democratic Party’s Innovation Committee Chair but resigned after nine hours due to controversy over past remarks such as ‘the cause of the Cheonan ship sinking is unknown.’ During this process, spokesperson Kwon caused a stir by making remarks such as ‘what kind of face’ and ‘killed all subordinates’ directed at former Cheonan ship captain Choi Won-il, but held a press conference the previous day to apologize.
