Daewoo E&C Acquires New International Standard in BIM Field... "Securing Overseas Order Competitiveness"

Daewoo E&C announced on the 8th that it has obtained a new certification for the international standard ‘ISO 19650:2018’ in the field of Building Information Modeling (BIM) from BSI (British Standards Institution). This qualification is frequently required in recent overseas new project bids, and it is expected to work advantageously in construction markets such as Singapore and Hong Kong in the future.

ISO 19650:2018 is an international standard dealing with Building Information Modeling (BIM), including requirements for BIM information management, operation, and collaboration capabilities for project participants such as clients, main contractors, and subcontractors. Based on this, objective verification is conducted in 26 areas including internal documents (procedures, guidelines, processes), interviews, project performance records, and sampling inspections.

Daewoo E&C obtained ISO 19650:2018 as the main contractor. This means that an internationally standardized BIM management system is consistently and continuously improved throughout the entire construction project process from bidding to design and construction.

Since ISO 19650:2018 is often applied as a requirement in recent overseas new project bids, Daewoo E&C has secured competitiveness in winning orders in the global construction markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia through this new certification acquisition. Moreover, domestically, the government is actively promoting the introduction of BIM aiming for digitalization of the construction industry by 2030, and Daewoo E&C can enhance reliability to stakeholders by providing objective verification in the BIM field.

Daewoo E&C has assigned dedicated BIM personnel in each business division and is currently performing work according to the BIM operation system in 16 domestic and 8 overseas projects. They are utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) not only for simple project operation and management but also tailored to each project and construction type in each business division. ① In the housing construction sector, a separate team has been formed to expand and improve BIM operations so that execution results output and design document reviews based on BIM proceed smoothly. ② In the civil engineering sector, a construction management system based on BIM is being developed to facilitate data system establishment and management of execution data during the construction phase. ③ In the plant sector, BIM, which is currently applied to existing EPC projects, is being expanded to build an integrated management platform for real-time mutual sharing of data and standardization of execution from design to procurement and construction.

A Daewoo E&C official said, “We are steadily preparing for a future where interest in smart construction such as BIM is increasing,” and added, “We will secure competitiveness through Daewoo E&C’s know-how and technological capabilities not only domestically but also in the global smart construction market, contributing to the company’s continuous growth and development.”
