Ulsan City Rolls the Dice as a Hub for the 'Life Industry'

Announcement of Bioindustry Revitalization Strategy on the 8th

Business Agreement with Attracted Companies, Progress Report

"Regional GDP 80 Trillion, 150,000 Jobs"

Ulsan City has declared its "starting signal" to leap forward as a bio-industry hub city. It announced its goal to implement four major strategies and ten key tasks by 2030.


On the 8th at 3 p.m., Ulsan City held the "Ulsan Bio-Industry Revitalization Strategy Presentation" at the first-floor Citizen Hall of the Ulsan City Council, attended by about 70 people including Mayor Kim Du-gyeom, city council members, and bio-industry stakeholders.


The presentation included ▲ signing a joint cooperation business agreement among bio-companies ▲ reporting the achievements of the Genome Service Special Zone regulatory sandbox project ▲ announcing the Ulsan bio-industry revitalization strategy ▲ and unveiling the Ulsan City Bio-Industry Promotion and Support Ordinance.


At the bio-company investment attraction briefing held on January 30, three companies?Kick the Hurdle Co., Deep Helix, and DNA Corporation?that promised to relocate to Ulsan from other regions participated and signed a joint business agreement.


Following this, the Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency reported on the achievements of the Genome Service Industry regulatory sandbox project.


Subsequently, Ulsan City announced the "Bio-Industry Revitalization Strategy" with the vision of "becoming a bio-industry hub city overflowing with high value-added jobs."


The revitalization strategy will be pursued through four major strategies: ▲ building networks and supporting commercialization ▲ creating a technological innovation ecosystem ▲ advancing core technologies to secure market dominance ▲ fostering a leading bio-industry city. It also includes ten key tasks such as establishing a one-stop support system from bio-chemical product development to product certification, comprehensive corporate support for commercialization activation, building advanced bio-technology innovation infrastructure, and completing a circular economy system for eco-friendly bio-chemical industries.


To ensure the effectiveness of the "Bio-Industry Revitalization Strategy," Ulsan City plans to set short- and long-term goals and invest a total budget of 250 billion KRW annually by 2030.


City Council member Baek Hyun-jo explained the "Ulsan City Bio-Industry Promotion and Support Ordinance," enacted to systematically nurture the bio-industry, establish a foundation for future growth, and revitalize the local economy.


Mayor Kim Du-gyeom of Ulsan said, "If the bio-industry revitalization strategy is implemented, we expect to achieve a regional gross production of 80 trillion KRW, create 150,000 new jobs, and double corporate sales," adding, "We will spare no support for nurturing new industries with great future growth potential and diverse value-added creation to generate new economic vitality."
