Jungnang-gu Operates Car-Free Streets Throughout the Weekend
Car-Free Street on Bonghwasan-ro 45-gil Expanded Every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 10 PM
Safe Walking Environment Created by Aligning Bicycle Lanes and Sidewalk Levels
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is expanding the operation of the car-free street on Bonghwasan-ro 45-gil every weekend.
The car-free street, which was previously operated only on Sundays, has been extended to Saturdays since May, with operating hours from 10 AM to 10 PM every weekend.
The car-free street project temporarily restricts all vehicle traffic, including two-wheelers, to create a comfortable and safe walking environment for pedestrians.
This expansion was implemented as part of efforts to improve the pedestrian environment for residents. To this end, the district conducted a survey among nearby residents last October to gather opinions, with about 98.5% of citizens supporting the expansion.
After the survey, the district completed the review of traffic safety facilities by the Jungnang Police Station and finished installing traffic safety facilities such as signs for the car-free street and slope construction on Bonghwasan in May.
The newly renovated car-free street spans a total of 500 meters from Sinnae 10 Complex to the exit of Jungnang-gu Office parking lot. The district improved pedestrian convenience by aligning the heights of the bicycle lanes and sidewalks.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “We hope residents can enjoy a leisurely weekend stroll while admiring the changing scenery of Bonghwasan throughout the seasons,” adding, “We will continue to manage the car-free street so that it remains a safe and pedestrian-friendly place where people want to walk.”
