Support for ‘Rooftop Rooms’ Meeting Illegal Building Standards... 80% of Housing Performance Improvement Costs Covered
Apply to Dongdaemun-gu Architecture Division by June 15, Design Fees Supported up to 1 Million KRW
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that it will additionally recruit participants for Seoul’s ‘2023 Rooftop Room Housing Performance Improvement Project’ aimed at improving the living environment of residents living in rooftop rooms until June 15.
Previously, the application was limited to ‘housing-vulnerable households living in rooftop rooms,’ but for the additional recruitment, the eligibility criteria have been relaxed to include ‘all households living in rooftop rooms.’
This rooftop room housing performance improvement project targets rooftop rooms that have resolved illegal building standards (legalized) and provides support of up to 20 million KRW (within 80% of construction costs) for housing performance improvements such as ▲structural safety ▲enhancement of insulation performance for floors and walls ▲installation of windows for lighting and ventilation.
Additionally, if design fees are required for permits, support of up to 1 million KRW is available.
Building owners wishing to improve the ‘housing performance of rooftop rooms’ can apply to the Dongdaemun-gu Architecture Division. However, rooftop rooms located in redevelopment or reconstruction zones designated as maintenance areas or those that have received other support are excluded.
Conditions for subsidy support include submitting a ▲‘4-year rent freeze’ and ‘tenant residence period guarantee coexistence agreement’ signed with tenants at the start of construction notification ▲contracting with a construction company registered on ‘Jipsuri.com’ ▲establishing a construction plan that sufficiently reflects the pre-consultation results of a home repair specialist, all of which will be reviewed by the subsidy review committee before final payment.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We ask for the interest and participation of rooftop room building owners in this additional recruitment so that residents suffering from heat and humidity in summer and cold and freezing in winter can live in a safer and more comfortable environment.”
