Promotion of Housing and Living Environment Improvements Including Home Repairs and Shelter Creation
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 7th that it is promoting various urban regeneration projects through a public contest by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to revitalize the original downtown area of Wando-eup.
First, as part of the "Customized Support Project for Local Demand," 200 million KRW was invested to improve the walking environment for residents of Yongam-ri and Seoseong-ri by installing elevators.
The old cultural center is planned to be remodeled with an investment of 4 billion KRW through the "Urban Regeneration Recognition Project" and utilized as the Wando-gun Youth Counseling Center.
The "Urban Regeneration New Deal Project," with a total investment of 13.4 billion KRW, targets the central village of Wando-eup (Jungang, Judo, Seoseong, Yongam-ri) and promotes revitalization of the commercial district centered on Jungang Market, improvement of housing and living environments for residents, and capacity-building education for residents.
To improve residents' housing and living environments, the home repair project (23 home repairs, 3 vacant house demolitions) has been completed. Solar power and rest facilities will be installed in the already established small parks and parking lots, and CCTV will be installed in Yongam-ri and Seoseong-ri to create safe alleys.
Jungang Market's Building A was purchased and demolished, and a new integrated public building will be constructed to offer affordable rent to young adults in the area who wish to start businesses.
Additionally, rest areas for merchants and visitors will be created, and traditional market specialization projects will be promoted through the development of food products using the market's main goods and the establishment of local food restaurants (outdoor food stalls).
To form a new commercial district replacing the demolished Cheonghae Market, a local food sales center will be established, and efforts will be made to revitalize the area and utilize it as a tourist resource by improving the deteriorated streetscape and providing attractions.
On the site of the old public clinic in Gunnae-ri, a "healing rest area" for residents has been created by planting various trees, installing benches and pavilions, and constructing stone and dirt paths.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, "We will do our best to promote urban regeneration projects that focus on residents' happiness and link with projects that utilize regional characteristics such as marine healing, history, and culture to invigorate tourism."
