Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) is attracting attention with a special event for newborns through the newsletter ‘Together Upright Seo-gu’ featuring a corner called ‘The First Letter to Our Child’ aimed at families with newborns.
According to Seo-gu on the 7th, this corner, which started in July 2021, has involved over 160 newborn families so far as part of Seo-gu’s low birthrate response policy.
The letters written directly by parents contain messages announcing and celebrating the birth of their child, such as “Thank you for being born, I love you” and “Mom, Dad, and your older brother have been waiting for you,” along with wishes for health and happiness.
The program is open to any child who has been registered for birth and resident registration in Seo-gu, and families can contact the local administrative welfare center or the Gender Equality and Population Birth Policy Team at Seo-gu Office within six months from the date of birth registration.
Seo-gu is implementing various childbirth care policies including the Happy Taxi for Mothers of Three Children, the Toy Delivery Service from Seo-gu Childcare Support Center, a 1 million KRW postpartum care fee support for low-income mothers and families with a third child, operation of the multicultural family childcare exchange communication space ‘Toktok Sudabang,’ and support of childcare products worth about 100,000 KRW.
