Gyeongnam Nonghyup and Gyeongsang National University Support Farms Facing Labor Shortage During Farming Season

Garlic Harvest in Namhae and Uiryeong

Gyeongnam Nonghyup and Gyeongsang National University announced on the 7th that they conducted rural labor assistance in Namhae and Uiryeong, Gyeongnam, where there is a shortage of labor during the garlic harvest season.

The activity was carried out last weekend to alleviate the labor shortage during the garlic harvest season and to revitalize rural areas. Despite it being the weekend, about 60 students and faculty members from Gyeongsang National University participated and helped elderly farmers in Namhae and Uiryeong, where garlic harvesting was in full swing.

Gyeongnam Nonghyup and Gyeongsang National University signed a 'Social Contribution Business Agreement' in 2017 and have continued rural labor assistance for six years.

In 2022, over 600 people participated in labor assistance through 32 sessions. In the first half of 2023, about 350 people visited rural areas facing labor shortages through 13 sessions to provide rural labor assistance.

Director Kim Ju-yang expressed gratitude to Gyeongsang National University, which has been working together for six years to support rural areas facing labor shortages, saying, “Gyeongnam Nonghyup will actively support labor assistance for farmers struggling with labor supply during the farming season by expanding agreements with universities in the province to help rural areas facing extinction due to aging and population decline.”
