KOSPI Rises Intraday on Institutional Net Buying

The KOSPI index is showing intraday strength, supported by net buying from institutional investors.


As of 10:21 a.m. on the 7th, the KOSPI index is trading at 2622.74, up 0.28% from the previous day.

By investor type, institutions are net buyers with 215.3 billion KRW, while foreigners and individuals are net sellers with 44.9 billion KRW and 158 billion KRW respectively. In the futures market, institutions and individuals are net sellers with 198.7 billion KRW and 188.7 billion KRW respectively, whereas foreigners are net buyers with 382.6 billion KRW.


On this day, the KOSPI index started with a slight rise, buoyed by the previous day’s New York stock market gains amid growing expectations of a soft landing for the U.S. economy. Subsequently, the net buying by institutions intensified, expanding the gains.


By sector, more sectors are rising. Transportation and warehousing rose 1.78%, chemicals 1.74%, insurance 1.75%, retail 1.0%, food and beverages 0.95%, finance 0.72%, telecommunications 0.46%, non-metallic minerals 0.48%, securities 0.4%, and services 0.45% showed strength. Conversely, transportation equipment fell 0.64%, electricity and gas -0.51%, and paper and wood -0.18% were weak.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, performance is mixed. Samsung Electronics is down 0.84%, Hyundai Motor -0.5%, Kia -1.16%, and POSCO Holdings -0.26% are declining. On the other hand, LG Energy Solution is up 0.67%, Samsung Biologics 0.64%, LG Chem 2.77%, and Samsung SDI 1.95% are showing strength. SK Hynix remains flat.


The KOSDAQ index is also strong on this day. At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is trading at 875.78, up 0.63% from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners are net buyers with 47.9 billion KRW and 35.4 billion KRW respectively, while individuals are net sellers with 70.6 billion KRW.


Most of the top market capitalization stocks are showing strength. EcoPro BM is up 1.55%, EcoPro 3.53%, L&F 3.01%, JYP Ent. 1.74%, Kakao Games 1.13%, Pearl Abyss 1.6%, and SM 1.59%. Conversely, Celltrion Healthcare is down 0.4%, HLB -1.95%, and Celltrion Pharm -0.92% are weak.


Meanwhile, at the same time, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1298.3 won, down 9.8 won from the previous day.
