Yongin City Hosts 'Reading Promotion Performances' at 10 Locations Including Elementary Schools

Children who participated in the performance held at Hillsup Library in Yongin City last year are enjoying the show.

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is launching a 'Visiting Reading Encouragement Performance' for children in areas far from public libraries, where it is difficult to access reading culture programs.

The performances will begin on the 9th at Samga Elementary School in Cheoin-gu and continue until the end of September at 10 locations, including Jawhang Elementary School (Wonsam-myeon), Baegam Elementary School (Baegam-myeon), Seongsan Elementary School (Yubang-dong), Jeil Elementary School (Yangji-myeon), Unhak Elementary School (Unhak-dong), Yongma Elementary School (Mapyeong-dong), Jigok Elementary School (Jigok-dong, Giheung-gu), Jiseok Elementary School (Sangha-dong, Giheung-gu), and the Yongin Multicultural Family Support Center (Sanghyeon-dong, Suji-gu).

Yongin City will stage the musical "Cinderella and Friends' Fairy Tale Book Party," adapted from the classic "Cinderella."

Additionally, a puppet show titled "Ureureu Kwangkwang It's Poop!!," which conveys the moral lesson of justice using the traditional folktale "Ddongbyeorak," will be presented.

Since 2018, Yongin City has been conducting visiting reading encouragement performances to inform children in information-vulnerable areas about the importance of reading and the joy of books. Over the past five years, a total of 7,000 children from 73 institutions have watched the performances.

A Yongin City official stated, "This year, we received an overwhelming number of requests to perform at 27 institutions," adding, "We will continue to present meaningful and beneficial performances to help children feel closer to books."
