The ‘ESG Holistic Global Citizen Week 2023’ global networking event was successfully held on the 4th and 5th at various locations including Pohang Change-up Ground and Handong Global University.
The event featured ESG special lectures and mentoring, an ESG startup camp and conference, as well as the ‘Yeongilman Startup Day.’ Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, startup companies, global investors, and university students participated, creating a platform for global communication.
In connection with this, during the Global Citizen Live Talk held on the 5th at Change-up Ground, Yoo Joong-geun, Chairman of UNAI KOREA, Jo Myung-hwan, Chairman of World Vision, and Sean, CEO of Seungil Hope Foundation, presented ideas to make Pohang a healthy global citizen city, drawing empathy from attendees.
In particular, the ‘Yeongilman (0110000) Startup Day’ global networking event for establishing an ESG global startup ecosystem was held on the same day, attracting great interest. Representatives from Asia’s largest global investors and directors of startup incubating programs participated, sharing valuable experiences about global startups.
The event began with an opening presentation by Harineo, CEO of Junocarbon, who was selected as one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Asian Leaders this year, followed by a keynote speech by Lim Jeong-taek (Heezbins), who is pioneering a culture of working with people with disabilities.
Additionally, vivid stories from global leaders driving innovation continued, including a Silicon Valley startup panel with Lim Seong-won (Imprimed) and Lee Hak (The Dots), who chose the challenging path of entrepreneurship overcoming various barriers, as well as Kim Hyung-soo (Triple Planet), Jung Yoo-seok (NIBC), and Ji Hyun-geun (Dana Green), who have long dedicated themselves to creating a better world.
The startup day event concluded with a discussion on Israel’s innovative startup ecosystem under the theme ‘How Israel Leads Global Innovation,’ featuring Dennis Van, CEO of OurCrowd, the world’s largest global investment platform, and Michael Mizrahi, CEO of Israeli startup funding company PipeLBiz and an international MBA professor at Hebrew University.
Earlier on the 4th, special lectures and mentoring sessions were held at Handong Global University, where global speakers including investors and startup representatives from Israel, Silicon Valley, and Singapore shared their know-how.
Alongside this, a startup camp was organized in Changbau Village, Sinchang-ri, Janggi-myeon, where participants could enjoy Pohang’s attractive sea and nature while sharing experiences and challenges among startups, investors, and companies in a relaxed atmosphere, drawing attention.
Vice Mayor Kim Nam-il said, “I consider it very meaningful that Pohang hosted a global networking festival as a place of solidarity and communication for a sustainable future for global citizens and for building an innovative ESG startup ecosystem,” adding, “We will take the lead in building an ESG global innovation city that embraces people, the environment, and society, realizing ESG values that bring greater hope to our lives.”
Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said, “Pohang is the first local government in Korea to declare itself an ‘ESG Holistic Global Citizen City,’” and added, “I hope that through many discussions held here, startups will respond to the social and era demands of ESG and meet excellent partners and investors to walk the path of success.”
This event was jointly hosted by Pohang City, UNAI KOREA (United Nations Academic Impact Korea), and Handong Global University to gather discourse on ESG practice directions following the ‘Global Citizen City ESG Pohang Declaration Ceremony’ held in November 2021, which marked the first signal for Pohang’s leap as a model city realizing ESG values.
