[Convenience Store Adventure] 100% Beef Patty... Forget About Maejumbbang

Improved Taste and Quality of Hamburgers
Microwaving Causes Soggy Buns
Need for Better Containment of Fillings

Recently, as hamburger franchise companies introduced single-item menus priced over 10,000 won, GS25 has stepped up with a challenge featuring a 100% beef patty. Moving away from the traditional mixed meat patties, they have significantly improved the quality, and the attractive price range of 3,900 to 4,000 won is a key selling point.

[Convenience Store Adventure] 100% Beef Patty... Forget About Maejumbbang

The Jjin Original Beef Burger prominently displays the phrases "100% beef content" and "premium beef patty" on the front. Upon inspection, the bun contained five pickles and one piece of lettuce. On top of that were the beef patty and cheese, followed by one slice of tomato and another piece of lettuce. After microwaving for 50 seconds, the cheese slightly melted. The thick patty, comparable to those at specialty stores, was impressive, and the flavor blended well with the mayonnaise sauce.

The Jjin Deluxe Egg Beef Burger had a patty slightly smaller than that of the Jjin Original Beef Burger, which was somewhat disappointing when compared side by side. It featured a fully cooked egg patty, cheese, and one slice of tomato on top, delivering a pleasantly savory and mildly sweet taste overall.

The Jjin So Bulgogi Beef Burger was topped with shiitake mushrooms, button mushrooms, jalape?os, and lettuce covering the bun. On top of these were the beef patty and one slice of tomato. The varied textures?from the chewiness of the mushrooms to the crispness of the lettuce?added complexity. The sauce was a beef bulgogi marinade, and the jalape?os effectively balanced out what could have been an overly rich flavor.

I had never bought a hamburger from a convenience store before, but the taste and quality were surprisingly decent. The size was comparable to specialty stores, making it sufficient as a full meal. However, there are still many areas where it falls short compared to hamburger franchises. Due to the nature of microwave preparation, the bun became soggy, and the simple plastic packaging allowed the contents and sauce to leak, further diminishing the bun’s taste. Even if the cost increases, improvements such as using paper or molds to prevent the contents from shifting seem necessary.
