Naju City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that it will support the purchase cost of electric bicycles, an eco-friendly mode of transportation, to promote their use.

This project covers a total of 50 units, providing 50% of the purchase cost per unit, up to a maximum of 300,000 KRW.

The application period is until the 15th. Applicants can download the application form for the "Electric Bicycle Purchase Cost Support Project" and submit it online through the city hall website.

Eligible applicants are citizens aged 18 or older who have been registered residents of Naju City for more than one year.

Support is limited to one person per household, and to revitalize the local economy, electric bicycles must be purchased from stores located within Naju City.

The bicycle model must be a pedal-assist (PAS) type costing less than 1.5 million KRW and must be an electric bicycle allowed on bicycle roads.

The product must meet conditions such as "simultaneous power operation of pedals and motor," "motor operation prohibited when traveling at speeds over 25 km/h," and "total bicycle weight under 30 kg."

After receiving online applications, the city plans to select 50 main winners and 30 alternates through an electronic lottery. If a main winner is disqualified or declines, the opportunity will be given to an alternate winner.

After selection, recipients must purchase the electric bicycle and submit proof documents to the Leisure Activity Support Team of the Sports Promotion Division at city hall to receive the purchase cost support.

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, "We support the purchase cost so that electric bicycles, an eco-friendly mode of transportation, can be used and established as a daily transportation method replacing cars, including for commuting." He added, "We expect this to contribute to carbon neutrality by increasing the share of transportation modes, improving air quality, and expanding eco-friendly green city infrastructure."
