Memorial Tribute to Fallen National Heroes Including Late Officer Park Kyung-jo Who Died During Illegal Foreign Fishing Vessel Crackdown
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) held a memorial ceremony for fallen police officers on the occasion of the 68th Memorial Day, honoring their noble spirit of sacrifice and reaffirming the commitment to protect maritime sovereignty.

According to Mokpo Maritime Police, on the morning of the 5th, a memorial ceremony for the 68th Memorial Day was solemnly held in front of the bust of the late Lieutenant Park Kyung-jo, located at Bukhang Noeul Park, attended by about 20 people including Chief Kim Hae-cheol, department heads, ship and vessel commanders, and section chiefs.
The ceremony proceeded in a solemn atmosphere with the declaration of opening, national anthem, flower offering and incense burning, and a moment of silence to honor the spirits of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes.
A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “We will deeply cherish the noble spirit of sacrifice for the nation and the people and never forget it,” adding, “We will carry on that precious will and do our best to protect the lives of the people and safeguard maritime sovereignty.”
The late Lieutenant Park Kyung-jo tragically died in the line of duty in September 2008 while cracking down on illegal fishing foreign vessels in the waters west of Gageodo, Heuksan-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do.
