Sinan-gun Docho 'Hwansang-ui Jeongwon' Selected as Model Urban Forest Certified by Korea Forest Service

Healing at the Hydrangea Festival Site... A Tourist Attraction Created Through Forest Development

Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) recently installed the certification plaque from the Korea Forest Service within the city forest after the "Garden of Fantasy (10-ri Road of Zelkova Trees)" received certification last year in the street tree category of the exemplary urban forest program, which was first implemented by the Korea Forest Service.

According to the county on the 5th, the "Exemplary Urban Forest" is a system where the head of the Korea Forest Service certifies urban forests that are exemplary in creation and management according to the Act on the Creation and Management of Urban Forests, which was first implemented last year.

The "Garden of Fantasy" in the street tree category of the exemplary urban forest passed all certification evaluation criteria, including species selection, planting, post-management, and related events, and was selected as an exemplary urban forest.

In particular, the annual Hydrangea Festival held in Dochodo Island and the volunteer groups and resident participation activities that cultivate the Garden of Fantasy were highly regarded as major contributors to its selection as an "Exemplary Urban Forest."

A county official stated, "We will do our best to continuously expand exemplary urban forests through the creation of one island, one theme Florpia island gardens and forest trails, making Shinan a place visited by many tourists."

Meanwhile, the Garden of Fantasy (10-ri Road of Zelkova Trees), which received the exemplary urban forest certification, will hold the "Island Hydrangea Festival by Boat" for 10 days from the 16th to the 25th. Both the Hydrangea Garden and the Garden of Fantasy have been certified by the Korea Records Institute for having the highest number of hydrangea plantings per local government area (㏊) nationwide, allowing visitors to enjoy a richer and more diverse variety of hydrangeas.
