"Ijunseok Must Also Be Embraced"
"There Is No Underground Supreme Council"
Former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok has expressed his intention to run as an independent candidate in the general election if he is disadvantaged in the party nomination process. In response, People Power Party lawmaker Ha Tae-kyung raised his voice, saying, "I'm saying this because I'm a little worried," and insisted that Lee should be given a nomination.
On the 5th, Ha appeared on YTN's 'News King Park Ji-hoon' and said, "For our party to win, we must naturally embrace him," expressing this view.
Last week, former leader Lee caused a stir by stating on SBS's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' that he would consider running as an independent if he was not nominated. Ha said, "I think he can definitely get the nomination, and isn't that district a tough one? How many years has it been since (Lee's challenge)?" adding, "He has built up the district for 10 years, so it is right to give him another chance."
Lee also announced his intention to reveal the reality of the party's five-person council. Regarding this, Ha said, "In any party or administration, there are people close to the president. Those people can have their own opinions, and then those opinions are listened to; if they are wrong, they are corrected, and if they make valid points, they are accepted. This is the decision-making process within the party."
He continued, "If there is an underground supreme council stronger than the official supreme council that regularly meets to make decisions, then that would be a problem," adding, "I don't think Lee was referring to that. In any case, from my perspective, there is no underground supreme council."
Regarding recent remarks by party leader Kim Ki-hyun at a workshop that "there will be no prosecutor nominations," Ha said, "The most important thing for the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is to secure a majority in the general election, and it is clear that the fewer prosecutor nominations there are, the more advantageous it is," adding, "President Yoon himself probably does not think that anything drastic needs to be done regarding prosecutor nominations."
