According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 5th, at around 5:40 PM on the 4th, a report was received that fishing vessel A (9.77 tons, registered in Sinan, with 5 crew members) had sunk near Cheonsa Bridge in Sinan-gun. Coastal rescue boats and the West Sea Marine Special Rescue Team were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The maritime police arrived at the scene at 5:53 PM, just 13 minutes after the report. They secured the safety of the five crew members who had left the vessel using three nearby outboard motor boats, conducted emergency dewatering operations, broadcast safety messages to nearby vessels, and carried out secondary accident prevention activities.

Mokpo Maritime Police intentionally grounded the sunken vessel in a nearby shallow water area (north of Yeokdo) to check for hull breaches and marine pollution. They also conducted a breathalyzer test on the captain, which confirmed no alcohol consumption.

Based on the captain’s statement that flooding occurred in the engine room for unknown reasons, Mokpo Maritime Police will investigate the detailed circumstances of the accident.
