From July, Salad and Rice Bowl Containers to Switch to Pulp Material
Three Types of Korean Meal Box Containers to Transition to Pulp by First Half of Next Year
Bondo Lunchbox announced on the 5th that it will implement a phased plastic reduction strategy to achieve plastic zero by 2027.
First, at nationwide franchise stores, starting from the launch of new menus next month, the containers for rice bowls and salads will be gradually replaced from paper to pulp material. The octagonal pulp containers, developed to prevent softening even when holding moisture-rich vegetables or sauces, are characterized by their firmness without losing shape or affecting taste.
By the end of August, Samsung direct-operated stores will pilot a service providing reusable containers when ordering rice bowls or salads. Afterwards, the number of franchises offering reusable containers with supply, collection, and washing services will be expanded.
In the second half of this year, the existing packaged seaweed will be replaced with seaweed without plastic trays. The goal is to apply this sequentially by franchise and expand it to all Bondo Lunchbox nationwide franchises within the year.
In the first half of next year, three types of trays?Hansang, Bansang, and Hanjeongsik?will be replaced with eco-friendly pulp materials. Bondo Lunchbox is carefully testing strength, moisture resistance, and efficiency, considering the safety and satisfaction of franchise owners and customers.
The goal is to provide eco-friendly services throughout the entire process of using Bondo Lunchbox. In 2025, delivery and packaging vinyl, spoon and chopstick packages will be changed to eco-friendly materials; in 2026, round and square containers for rice and soup will be replaced with eco-friendly materials, ultimately achieving plastic zero by 2027.
Lee Jae-ui, head of Bondo Lunchbox Headquarters, said, “To enhance customer satisfaction and fulfill social responsibility, we are implementing a five-year plastic reduction plan until 2027, focusing not only on the taste and quality of food but also on sustainability. Through systematic testing, operation, and management, we will expand the phased strategy to nationwide franchises.”
