The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 5th that it has selected four educational institutions specializing in Hanok design and construction to lead the '2023 Hanok Professional Workforce Training Project' aimed at promoting and revitalizing Hanok.
The Hanok design course institutions include three universities: Myongji University, Chonnam National University, and Jeonbuk National University, with Jeonbuk National University also selected as an institution for the Hanok construction management course. Each institution will announce recruitment for trainees this month and begin operating the courses from July.
The Hanok Professional Workforce Training Project has been promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport since 2011 to meet the public demand for Hanok architecture and to raise awareness of Hanok as a traditional cultural asset. So far, over 1,300 trainees have graduated, and this year the goal is to train 160 professionals.
Anyone involved in architecture-related fields, such as technicians interested in Hanok, is eligible to apply. Detailed information on trainee selection procedures and schedules can be found at the respective educational institutions.
Lee Jeong-hee, Director of Architectural Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, “We hope that excellent Hanok, combining traditional charm and convenience, will be widely disseminated, and the Ministry will continue to nurture Hanok professionals in the future.”
