A man in his 20s who injured people by ramming his vehicle into them on the street after taking drugs and becoming angry was sentenced to prison again in the appellate court.
According to the legal community on the 4th, the Criminal Division 3-2 of Suwon High Court (Presiding Judges Kim Dong-gyu, Heo Yang-yoon, and Won Ik-seon) sentenced Mr. A to six years in prison on appeal for charges including attempted murder and violation of the Narcotics Control Act.
Mr. A is accused of hitting a taxi driver in his 40s, Mr. B, and his acquaintance Mr. C, who were standing in front of a convenience store near his residence, with the vehicle he was driving after taking LSD, a psychotropic drug, around May last year.
Before the crime, while walking around his house, Mr. A asked Mr. B for "coffee," but when ignored, he got into the driver's seat of Mr. B's taxi parked by the roadside. When Mr. B tried to stop him, Mr. A became angry, went home to get his car, and committed this act.
After hitting Mr. C with the car, Mr. A got out of the vehicle and verbally abused Mr. C, who was lying on the ground, and also assaulted him by stomping on his torso. The victims suffered fractures and other serious injuries and received treatment at a hospital.
The first trial sentenced Mr. A to seven years in prison, but the appellate court reduced the sentence to six years, considering that the defendant had reached a settlement with some of the victims.
