Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the '2023 Nowon Carbon Neutrality Festival' held at Deungnamu Cultural Park in Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul, at 11 a.m. on the 3rd.
Now in its second year, the 'Carbon Neutrality Festival' was planned to raise awareness of the seriousness of the climate crisis and the importance of achieving carbon neutrality, coinciding with World Environment Day (June 5).
Hosted by the Nowon Environmental Foundation, the only environmental foundation established by a Seoul district, the event brought together various local environmental organizations including the Nowon Eco Center, Nowon EZ Center (Nowon Energy Zero Center), Jungnangcheon Environmental Center, as well as the Carbon Neutrality Promotion Council, environmental groups, and schools.
The event was attended by distinguished guests including Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, Dong Jong-in, Chairman of the Nowon Environmental Foundation, and Kim Jun-seong, Chairperson of the Nowon District Council, along with residents. The program included the opening declaration, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, awards for the Nowon District Environmental Photo Contest, declaration of the 10 Promises for Carbon Neutrality Citizen Practice, and a commemorative photo session.
As a side event, 43 experiential booths were operated, featuring activities such as a sunlight playground and sunlight fountain using solar energy, cotton candy making using a bicycle generator, and a hydraulic aquarium, encouraging natural engagement and interest in carbon neutrality practices.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “The 10 Promises for Carbon Neutrality Practice, chosen by the residents, are easy to implement in our daily lives,” adding, “I ask everyone to take an interest in the climate crisis and actively participate in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
