Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the ‘Gwangjin Environmental Festival’ at Gwangjin Supnaru on the 2nd to reflect on the importance of the precious global environment.
The Environmental Festival, held in commemoration of the ‘28th World Environment Day,’ was organized to raise awareness and understanding of the environment among residents and the local community.
This event featured a variety of programs including ▲Carbon Neutral Forest Planting Ceremony ▲Presentation of Environmental Merit Awards ▲Celebration Performances ▲Event Booth Operations ▲Exhibition of Weather and Climate Photographs, creating a rich festival atmosphere.
The Carbon Neutral Forest is located beside the Mugunghwa Hill and serves as a space to commemorate residents who have practiced eco-friendly activities through the Ontree app and earned more than 1,000 points, as well as those who planted Mugunghwa trees contributing to carbon reduction.
‘Ontree’ is an app whose name means ‘turning on a tree like a power button.’ Users complete 12 eco-friendly missions such as separating waste and using tumblers, and earn points by verifying photos through the app.
There are 54 residents in Gwangjin-gu who have achieved over 1,000 points, and 16 of them attended the event to plant trees together with the Deputy Mayor.
In addition, commendations were awarded to the Gwangjin Eco Leader Volunteer Group, members of the Environmental Correspondents Association Gwangjin Branch, and outstanding Ontree app users for their efforts in environmental conservation.
The celebration continued with performances by local artists. Fusion jazz performances by the K-Jazz Society and the youth choir Mulpae Youth Choir’s choral performance of ‘For the Earth’ greatly energized the event atmosphere.
Around the ceremony venue, various booths combining promotion and hands-on experiences were set up, including ▲Solar-powered Mini Cars ▲Cotton Candy Made by Foot Power ▲Coffee Grounds Clay Experience ▲Coffee Grounds Recycling Project Team ▲Eco-friendly Activities ▲Resource Recycling Promotion, attracting attention as visitors could see and directly experience eco-friendly lifestyles.
Additionally, excellent works selected from the Weather and Climate Photo Exhibition and Environmental Art Contest were displayed along with photo zones, providing diverse attractions.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “What is important for environmental protection is interest and participation. This event was organized to emphasize that small actions for environmental protection are crucial,” adding, “We will strive to spread small daily practices so that we can leave a clean earth to the next generation.”
