Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the ‘2023 Gwangjin Future Education Roundtable Forum’ on the 2nd to communicate with various educational stakeholders.
Since its inception in 2017, the roundtable forum has been a place where diverse participants such as students, parents, and teachers gather to share their thoughts. It was organized to collect opinions from those involved in the education sector and to promote more effective projects.
The forum held at the district office auditorium was co-hosted by the Seongdong-Gwangjin Office of Education and Konkuk University College of Education. This year, over 100 participants sat around the roundtable to freely exchange opinions on the ‘2022 Revised Curriculum,’ a hot topic in the education field.
In the first part, following an introduction to the Gwangjin Future Education District, a special lecture titled ‘The Future of Schools through the 2022 Revised Curriculum’ was held. Professor Kim Jong-hoon from Konkuk University’s Department of Teacher Education captured attention by explaining the major subject-specific changes in the curriculum revised after 7 years.
During the second part’s discussion, 12 groups organized by elementary, middle, and high school levels engaged in active debates. They explored various alternatives for the effective implementation of the new curriculum and exchanged diverse opinions.
Notably, undergraduate students from Konkuk University College of Education participated as professional facilitators, drawing attention.
Participants shared opinions such as, “As autonomy has increased compared to before, it is necessary to create conditions where students can actively participate,” and “We hope the local community will take greater interest to help children set proper career paths.”
The opinions presented at this forum will be actively reflected in district administration. Continuous cooperation with related organizations such as the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and Seongdong-Gwangjin Office of Education will strengthen the substance of educational projects.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “This forum was held to listen to the stories of many people on the front lines of education,” and added, “We will always listen carefully to the vivid voices from the field, communicate, and lead the development of the Gwangjin Future Education District.”
The Gwangjin Future Education District is promoting various policy projects including ▲support for cultural, arts, and physical education village instructors ▲community-linked curricula ▲village schools ▲future society career experiences ▲Gwangjin university student mentor groups ▲Saturday historical excursions.
