A man in his 20s who deceived minors and others in idol fan chat rooms by promising to pay interest and embezzled approximately 12 million won has been brought to trial.
According to the legal community on the 2nd, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jang-woo) indicted the man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of fraud and detained him.
A is accused of deceiving 17 people, including a 12-year-old minor, in multiple idol fan chat rooms from January 21 to the 12th of last month, embezzling 11.66 million won over 121 instances by promising to pay interest.
According to the prosecution, A built trust by borrowing 40,000 won from victims and paying more than 10,000 won in interest. Later, when victims demanded repayment, he deceived them by promising to repay all at once if he borrowed once more.
A prosecution official stated, "We will make every effort to maintain the prosecution so that the defendant receives punishment commensurate with the crime."
