Gimhae City Council: "Gimhae is the Perfect Location for the Northeast Asia Logistics Platform"

Unanimous Adoption of Resolution Including Enactment of Special Act on Development Projects

The Gimhae City Council in Gyeongnam unanimously adopted the “Resolution Urging the Enactment of the Northeast Asia Logistics Platform Special Act” at the first plenary session of the 254th regular meeting on the 1st.

According to the city council, the resolution was jointly proposed by the Urban Construction Committee of the city council and supported by all 25 council members.

Through the resolution, the council members requested the government to designate Gimhae City as the optimal site for the Northeast Asia logistics platform development project and to designate a “logistics promotion special zone,” a logistics network hub organically connecting port, air, and rail transportation.

They urged the National Assembly to enact a special law including a long-term development plan related to the development project.

They also requested Gimhae City to actively respond to expedite the progress of the Northeast Asia logistics platform project.

They pointed out, “South Korea is a global logistics powerhouse ranked in the top 5 worldwide in port and air transportation sectors, but its performance relies on single modes such as logistics hub airports and marine logistics hubs,” adding, “The mutually organic transportation linkage system among ports, air, and rail is insufficient.”

“The establishment of the Northeast Asia logistics platform can alleviate the unipolarization of the metropolitan area, lead balanced national development, and solve joint challenges faced by the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) region as a global competitive unit,” they emphasized, “It can also lay the groundwork for South Korea to leap forward as a top 3 global integrated logistics hub.”

They then explained the reasons why the Northeast Asia logistics platform should be established in Gimhae City.

They stated that the city has been researching the basic plan for the Northeast Asia logistics platform for two years, hosting economic forums and policy seminars, forming a dedicated team, and establishing a cooperative system through practical consultations with neighboring local governments.

They also highlighted the upcoming opening of a smart pharmaceutical logistics center and the attraction of investments worth 3.5 trillion KRW from 14 logistics companies over the past two years due to the development of large-scale industrial complexes.

The council members said, “Our city is equipped with Tri-port transportation infrastructure to be established through Jinhae New Port, Gadeokdo New Airport, and the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam metropolitan railroad, and is the optimal site with logistics core facilities and the potential for developing back-end complexes centered around Jukrim-dong in Gangseo-gu, Busan, and Hwamok-dong in Gimhae.”
