Gaon Group (CEO Lim Dong-yeon), a total AI solution specialist company, announced on the 2nd that it will supply KT with a premium device combining AI set-top box and wireless router (AP) functions.
As KT recently revamped its IPTV service to ‘Genie TV’ and announced a plan to advance its business, this new product is expected to attract great attention as an ambitious launch.
The product is the ‘Genie TV All-in-One Set-Top Box,’ integrating an AI speaker, set-top box, and Wi-Fi 6 router. It is the industry’s first to simultaneously support Dolby and Samsung Electronics’ high-definition video standards ‘Dolby Vision’ and ‘HDR10+,’ and applies the three-dimensional spatial sound technology ‘Dolby Atmos.’
With this product launch, consumers can use IPTV based on AI voice recognition as well as wireless internet services with a single device at home, eliminating the hassle of managing multiple devices. Moreover, with high-performance video and audio features, it is expected that users will be able to enjoy increasingly diverse high-quality domestic and international content vividly at home.
A company official stated, “Since Gigagenie1 (currently Genie TV Set-Top Box 1), we have continuously supplied KT’s high value-added product line, and through collaboration on the launch of the new premium line, we have proven our technological capabilities and strengthened our relationship. We will continue to seek opportunities to enhance corporate value by expanding partnerships in various businesses.”
Since launching the world’s first AI set-top box combining AI with IPTV in 2017, Gaon Group has steadily introduced new products and advanced its technology. Based on domestic commercialization technology and know-how, in 2021, it signed an export contract with the largest telecommunications operator in the Middle East and Africa region, expanding its AI solution portfolio to overseas markets.
Meanwhile, Gaon Group won the ‘Transformation Division Grand Prize’ at last year’s ‘KT Partners Day’ and signed an MOU with KT and its affiliates for the production of eco-friendly products, expanding collaboration as a key partner. KT, including its affiliates, is the number one operator in Korea with 13 million paid broadcasting subscribers.
