Jeong Yujeong "Similar to 'Incheon Elementary Student Abduction and Murder'... Turning Imagination into Action"

Lawyer Son Suho on CBS Radio
"A social outcast... imagined committing crimes tens of thousands of times"

Attorney Son Su-ho analyzed the Jeong Yoo-jeong case, in which a woman in her 20s was murdered and her body mutilated in Busan, stating that "she seemed to be isolated from society, trapped in her own world, and acted on homicidal impulses."

Attorney Son appeared on CBS Radio's "Kim Hyun-jung's News Show" on the 2nd and said, "Jeong Yoo-jeong has no prior criminal record but was already cut off from society and immersed in criminal content," adding, "It is possible that she imagined committing the crime thousands or tens of thousands of times."

Attorney Son explained, "People who have social bonds, even if their thoughts are temporarily distorted, have opportunities to correct them through interactions with others. However, looking at Jeong Yoo-jeong's phone usage records, she practically had no contact with others."

He continued, "Being a recluse itself is not a crime, nor can it be said that all recluses are connected to crime, but if things progress negatively, horrific crimes can occur."

Attorney Son referred to the 2017 "Incheon Elementary School Student Abduction and Murder" case as a similar incident to the Jeong Yoo-jeong case. He evaluated that both cases stemmed from being trapped in their own worlds, where imagination and fantasy grew stronger, causing confusion with the real world and thoughts like 'Should I try it once?' or 'I want to apply it this way.'

Attorney Son emphasized that investigative agencies must uncover the "decisive trigger that made Jeong Yoo-jeong decide to carry out her imagination in reality" and the "moment she felt the homicidal impulse."

He said, "There are probably quite a few people in situations similar to Jeong Yoo-jeong even now," adding, "Among them, only some actually carry out crimes, so we must find the path and circumstances through which they acted and stop it."
