Gyeonggi Province has decided on the official name of the largest pet complex cultural space in Korea, opening in Yeoju this July, as 'Gyeonggi Banryeomaru Yeoju.'

On the 2nd, Gyeonggi Province announced that it selected 'Banryeomaru' as the final first place by combining the results of a public vote conducted on the provincial opinion survey website from the 23rd to the 29th of last month and expert evaluation scores.

Banryeomaru means 'a space where companion animals gather and communicate.'

Gyeonggi Banryeomaru Yeoju is a facility established to realize a 'Gyeonggi Province where people and animals are happy together,' consisting of five buildings necessary for pet adoption, protection, and education.

The complex cultural space will run various programs to establish a proper pet culture, such as free adoption of abandoned animals and education on respecting animal life. To this end, it will operate spaces for abandoned animal adoption and protection, grooming and bathing rooms, playgrounds, counseling rooms, offices, and a pet culture center.

Gyeonggi Province, together with the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, will hold 'Another Family, 2023 Gyeonggi PETSTA' at the old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Paldal Building for two days on the 3rd and 4th of this month to promote a healthy pet culture.

The event is designed as a festival where both pet owners and non-pet owners can enjoy together and interact with neglected abandoned animals. On the first day, the 3rd, an award ceremony for the naming contest of the pet complex cultural space will be held. On the 4th, hosted by broadcaster Park Suhong, 'Pet Owners Abnormal Summit,' where comedian Park Seonggwang and foreigners freely discuss pet cultures from around the world, will take place.

Park Yeong-gyeong, head of the Pet Department of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Thanks to the participation of many people, we have a meaningful name," and added, "We will prepare without fail for the opening of Gyeonggi Banryeomaru Yeoju so that the perception that pets are 'another family' can spread."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province plans to create pet complex cultural spaces by region. Accordingly, following Yeoju, the pet complex cultural space being established in Hwaseong will be named 'Gyeonggi Banryeomaru Hwaseong.'
