On the 31st, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters provided 40 million KRW in research funding to the Gijang-gun Fisheries Resources Research Center for the "Gijang-type Seaweed Seed Cultivation and Distribution Project."
This support aims to increase the income of local fishermen who are facing economic difficulties due to rising coastal water temperatures caused by climate change.
Since 2019, the Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters has been supporting the "Gijang-type Seaweed Seed Cultivation and Distribution Project" for five years. They are also striving to develop seaweed varieties that can overcome the changing surrounding marine environment and to increase the income of local fishermen.
The research funding provided this time will be used for indoor cultivation technology research and the purchase of cultivation equipment. The Gijang-gun Fisheries Resources Research Center will supply the results of the Gijang-type seaweed seed production research, obtained through the development of indoor guided cultivation technology, to local fishermen.
Kim Jong-i, Director of External Cooperation at Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters, stated, "Going forward, Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters plans to continuously support the research of various varieties that benefit local fisheries and increase the income of local fishermen."
