"Remembering the Old Songdo Amusement Park"... Incheon Yeonsu-gu to Hold 'Songdo Beach Festival' Next Month

A festival reminiscing the old Songdo Amusement Park, which was known as the first national tourist destination in Korea, will be held in Incheon.

Yeonsu-gu, Incheon announced on the 1st that it will hold the '4th New Songdo Beach Festival' for 9 days starting from the 29th of next month at Songdo Dalbit Park and its surrounding area.

The Songdo Beach Festival, revived after 5 years, will be themed 'A Feast of Light and Water,' creating an emotional space that combines an artificial white sand beach, water experiences, light sculptures, and various exhibitions.

An artificial white sand beach will be created to evoke memories of citizens from that era who have children in their 30s to 50s, and programs such as 'Campnic,' which combines camping and picnics, will be prepared.

In particular, leveraging the symbolism of the old Songdo Amusement Park beach, the first national tourist destination in Korea, the festival will guide summer tourists with diverse daytime and nighttime content including experiences, exhibitions, street arts, and regional cooperation.

Yeonsu-gu plans to promote this Songdo Beach Festival as a representative festival playing a central role in the urban cultural ecosystem along with the existing Neunghoedae Festival, and to nurture it as a sustainable local festival.

Through the development of core contents and story discovery for each festival, they intend to make the festival site a landmark, efficiently utilize local resources, and accumulate festival facilities in the mid to long term to turn them into tourism resources.

The Songdo Beach Festival is characterized as a regional development-type festival that combines marine adventure and light healing, resonating with all generations.

Main facilities include a 47m wide and 10m long artificial white sand beach, two water play zones, a Campnic zone consisting of a food market and over 30 tent areas, as well as convenience facilities such as shade tents and beach parasols.

Here, water play and retro games will be available, and on weekends, campfires and recreational activities will be held. Weekend programs will also include exhibitions such as the Old Songdo Amusement Park special exhibition and light sculptures.

Additionally, the festival will be linked with various street performances such as themed concerts and the Songdo Future Festival (SFF), and a beach theater will be opened on weekends to foster intergenerational empathy within families.

As a regional development-type festival, a story and photo contest about the old Songdo Amusement Park will be held to recall beach memories, and regional cooperation programs such as food trucks and local markets connected with local businesses will be conducted.

Lee Jae-ho, head of Yeonsu-gu, said, "The festival, which was previously represented by the Neunghoedae Cultural Festival, will now establish a local festival structure representing summer and autumn by adding the New Songdo Beach Festival. We expect this to be an opportunity to expand residents' leisure and change the urban image of Yeonsu-gu through a lively festival production in the city."
