County Governor Shin Woo-cheol "Promises to Achieve a Greater Leap Forward"
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do held the ‘Wando Residents' Day’ commemorative ceremony on the 31st of last month at the Wando Culture and Arts Center, attended by about 500 people including residents, recipients of the Wando Residents' Award, and honorary residents of Wando-gun.

According to the county on the 1st, Residents' Day was established in 1971 to promote unity among residents and regional development. Unlike the past three years when the event was scaled down due to COVID-19, this year’s event was held grandly.
The ceremony began with performances by the dance clubs ‘Lucid’ and ‘Beatrice’ from Wando Girls' Middle School, followed by the reading of the Residents' Charter by Mr. Jeong Ji-won, the recipient of the 51st Residents' Award in the culture and sports category, and the singing of ‘Wando’s Anthem’ by children from a daycare center.
In particular, the ‘History of Wando-gun’ video watched together with the residents at the city hall moved the audience by expressing gratitude to the residents for their enthusiastic support, showcasing Wando’s past appearance, the recent attraction of the National Subtropical Arboretum and the National Marine Fisheries Museum, and the successful hosting of the Jeollanam-do Sports Festival and the Disabled Sports Festival.
Additionally, at the entrance of the Culture and Arts Center, a photo exhibition under the theme ‘From the Foundation Stone of Cheonghaejin to the Cornerstone of the Marine Healing Industry’ was set up to allow residents to see Wando’s past and present at a glance, along with a photo zone for commemorative pictures, making the event colorful and enjoyable for the residents.
The ‘Wando Residents' Award’ in the industry and economy category was awarded to Kang Hyuk-soon, director of Hanil Express Co., Ltd., and honorary residents were selected as singer Youngtak, No Gwang-chun, director of Anseong City Hall, Seo Jung-ho, CEO of Ajin Industry Co., Ltd., and Jeong Yeon-woo, commander of the 2nd Battalion, 8539th Unit, who were presented with honorary resident certificates.
In his commemorative speech, County Governor Shin Woo-cheol first expressed his gratitude, saying, “The marine healing industry and marine bio-industry, the construction of a wellness tourism city, and the attraction of the National Subtropical Arboretum and the National Marine Fisheries Museum, which are future growth engines of our county, are the fruits achieved by gathering the wisdom and capabilities of all residents.”
He also said, “I will do my best to lead the county administration so that our residents can take pride in being residents of Wando-gun,” and added, “I hope you will give strong support for Wando’s greater leap forward.”
