Additional Delivery of High-Speed Landing Craft to the Navy

The high-speed landing craft (LSF-II), a key force in amphibious operations, has been additionally delivered to the Navy.

On the 1st, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced that the high-speed landing crafts Solgae-633 and Solgae-635, the 3rd and 4th units respectively, were delivered to the Navy. The high-speed landing craft adopts an air-cushion method that uses air bags to float the vessel, enabling rapid movement while carrying tanks, armored vehicles, and fully armed troops not only on the sea but also in shallow waters and mudflats, making it a core force in amphibious operations.

Solgae-633 and 635 are follow-up vessels constructed with improved designs based on the operational experience of Solgae-631 and 632, which were commissioned in 2007. These vessels are approximately 28 meters long, 14 meters wide, 8 meters high, and weigh about 100 tons. After completing operational training, they are scheduled to be deployed in active service within the year. The 5th to 8th units are currently under construction.

Bang Geuk-cheol, head of the ship project division at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, said, "The high-speed landing craft is a core landing force deployed in Navy and Marine Corps amphibious operations," adding, "Based on its advantage of being able to maneuver regardless of terrain, it is expected to play a significant role on the battlefield."
