Exhibition of Portraits of Seongbuk’s Cultural Artists Created with Small Objects like Crystals, Rice, and Beans Instead of Paint at ‘Munhwa Gonggan Yi Yuk Sa’

Local Artist Lee Dong-jae Invited to Express the Flow of Seongbuk’s Culture and Arts Connecting Past and Present

Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is hosting a special exhibition at ‘Munhwa Gonggan Yi Yuk Sa’ centered on the figures, works, and exchanges of modern and contemporary cultural artists who were active in Seongbuk.

Local artist Lee Dong-jae has been invited to hold the exhibition titled 'Simok 詩木, Harmonizing Branches.'

Contemporary artist Lee Dong-jae has created portraits using small objects such as rice, beans, red beans, and crystals instead of paint. In this exhibition, visitors can encounter modern and contemporary cultural artists of Seongbuk, including Yi Yuk-sa, Han Yong-un, Lee Tae-jun, Jeon Hyeong-pil, Kim Whanki, and Jo Ji-hoon, through crystal artworks.

Seongbuk is known as a literary village where many cultural artists resided since the Japanese colonial period, and it continues to uphold its legacy as a city of culture and arts. Besides portraits of modern and contemporary cultural artists, the exhibition also features works newly interpreting the poems of Kim Kwang-seop, Baek Seok, and Yi Yuk-sa.

Additionally, on June 17, the Seongbuk Literary Exploration program will be held, offering a deeper understanding of the exhibition and a vivid literary experience through commentary by Kim Tae-bin, a teacher at Hanseong High School and author of 'Walking the Provisional Government, Walking Korea' (2022) and 'Dongju, Walking' (2020).
