Festival Venue Opens at 2·3-Day Lifelong Learning Center
Various Events Including Popular Trot Singer 'Shin Yu'
Pohang City will hold the ‘Do Dream (DO Dream) Festival’ over two days on June 2 and 3 at the Batmeori Lifelong Learning Center area.
This event was organized by the Lifelong Education Division, the Municipal Library, and the Municipal Art Museum to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Pohang Lifelong Learning Center and to share the achievements of lifelong learning over the past decade with citizens.
Pohang City is preparing a variety of programs to make this event a learning festival that people of all ages, from children to seniors, can enjoy together.
First, programs for children include ▲ English play, cooking and Pilates experiences ▲ family face cookie making ▲ children’s balloon art ▲ bubble gun and Lego experiences. For adults, programs such as ▲ tea ceremony and etiquette ▲ grilled meat cooking, flower tea tasting ▲ nail art ▲ Chinese calligraphy brush writing experience will be held.
In addition, special events such as an adult literacy education poetry and painting exhibition, exhibitions of excellent artworks, lifestyle interior accessories, a flea market sales event, a reading zone, and a steel art workshop experience will be prepared. Along with this, various performances by students and learning clubs, including samulnori, Nanta, dance, and musical instrument performances, will also be available.
On the 3rd, the commemorative ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Senior Golden Bell event, followed by student performances and pre-ceremony performances. The ceremony will include awards for lifelong learning development contributors, screening of congratulatory video messages, and performances.
Especially at 11 a.m. on the same day, a concert featuring a talk with popular trot singer Shin Yu will be held in connection with the June Citizens’ Liberal Arts College.
Kim Hyun-gu, Director of the Lifelong Learning Center, said, “At this Do Dream Festival, we want to look back on the past 10 years of the Lifelong Learning Center and create a festival space to prepare for future lifelong learning together with citizens. We hope many citizens, from children to seniors, will participate, celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Lifelong Learning Center, and have a joyful time together.”
The Pohang Lifelong Learning Center, opened in 2013, boasts the largest scale nationwide as a single facility, with about 1,000 daily users participating in lifelong learning.
Since being designated as a lifelong learning city by the Ministry of Education in 2012, the city has achieved excellent results in the lifelong education sector, including winning the most awards in the Gyeongbuk Province lifelong education policy evaluation, establishing the nation’s first lifelong learning center within a Marine Corps military base, operating a visiting neighborhood senior university, having the senior abacus competition officially recorded by the Korea Records Institute, receiving the Minister of Education Award at the Korea Lifelong Learning Awards, winning all categories at the Korea Lifelong Learning Awards, and serving as the representative city of the Gyeongbuk region in the National Lifelong Learning City Council.
