Progress Status Review Meeting Held

Jinju City in Gyeongnam is preparing for a vigorous leap toward becoming a global economic forum through the successful hosting of the ‘K-Entrepreneurship Jinju International Forum’ this coming July.

The organizing committee of the K-Entrepreneurship Jinju International Forum held a progress review meeting for the forum at 10 a.m. on May 31 at the Korea Automobile Industry Cooperative in Seoul.

At the event, the committee’s co-chairpersons, Mayor Cho Gyu-il and former UN Ambassador Oh Jun, attended together, along with 13 committee members including Ayman Tarabishy, President of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB); Kim Jong-wook, CEO of Swissport Korea; Kim Ki-chan, professor at Catholic University; Heo Jae-young, chairman of the National Council for Sustainable Development; Bae Jong-tae, professor at KAIST; and Heo Nam-jin, professor emeritus at Seoul National University.

During the meeting, the organizing committee reviewed matters related to the event’s progress and discussed overall issues concerning the international forum, including the welcome event, Jinju Declaration, opening ceremony, and academic conference, before finalizing detailed implementation plans.

Mayor Cho said, “I would like to thank the committee members who have worked hard since the organizing committee’s launch last March in planning the event, securing speakers, and preparing papers for the K-Entrepreneurship Jinju International Forum,” adding, “Please make every effort in the remaining period to ensure the forum develops into a representative K-content of Korea and an international economic forum.”

Former UN Ambassador Oh Jun stated, “Thanks to the efforts of Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju, ICSB President Ayman Tarabishy, and various organizing committee members, the outline of the K-Entrepreneurship Jinju International Forum seems to have taken shape,” and added, “The series of events, including Mayor Cho’s visit to the UN in June to deliver a keynote speech at the World Small Business Day event, is successfully leading the Jinju International Forum.”

ICSB President Ayman Tarabishy said, “Over the past four months, we have conducted research on Jinju’s history, the roots of K-entrepreneurship, and Eastern entrepreneurship, and after several verification processes, the paper ‘The Origins of Korean Entrepreneurship’ is about to be published,” expressing hope that “these various research achievements on Jinju K-entrepreneurship will spread globally through this Jinju International Forum.”

The paper, ‘The Origins of Korean Entrepreneurship,’ is co-authored by Mayor Cho Gyu-il, ICSB President Ayman Tarabishy, former UN Ambassador Oh Jun, and Professor Kim Ki-chan of Catholic University, and is scheduled for publication in June.

The ‘K-Entrepreneurship Jinju International Forum’ will be held from July 9 to 11 over three days at the Jinju K-Entrepreneurship Center, co-hosted by Jinju City and the International Council for Small Business. The forum will be attended by entrepreneurs and professors from around the world affiliated with ICSB, as well as about 100 overseas university students, who will discuss the history of Korean entrepreneurship.

On March 23, Jinju City launched the ‘K-Entrepreneurship Jinju International Forum Organizing Committee,’ consisting of 23 members including corporate CEOs, international conference experts, and domestic and international entrepreneurship-related professors.
