According to the legal community on the 31st, Judge Jeong Seunghwa of the Suwon District Court Criminal Division 16 sentenced a woman in her 40s, Ms. A, to six months in prison on charges of assault.

Ms. A is accused of repeatedly kicking the belly of the pregnant director, Ms. B, with her foot and assaulting her head and cheek with her hands at a private academy in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, around 7 p.m. on July 29 last year.

Investigations revealed that Ms. A committed the violence out of anger after Ms. B refused to refund the academy fees.

Ms. B was diagnosed by a hospital as requiring 15 days of treatment.

Judge Jeong stated, "The victim has suffered considerable physical and mental pain from this incident and is petitioning for a severe punishment of the defendant," adding, "Although the defendant admitted to the crime, she did not show a sincere attitude of remorse, claiming from the investigation stage that the victim was the cause of the crime." He further explained the sentencing rationale, saying, "Considering the defendant’s prior convictions for similar offenses, a prison sentence is inevitable. However, the sentence was determined by taking into account the defendant’s admission of the crime and the relatively minor extent of the victim’s injuries."
