Shelter Verification Falters as 'Disaster Safety Portal' Also Experiences Access Disruption

Shelter Verification Falters as 'Disaster Safety Portal' Also Experiences Access Disruption Disaster Safety Portal Service Access Waiting Window

The government announced that it will expand the server capacity of the Disaster Safety Portal and the Safe Stepping Stone app to ensure uninterrupted service during emergencies.

On the 31st at 6:41 a.m., the Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated that it will increase server capacity following connection disruptions to the Disaster Safety Portal and Safe Stepping Stone app operated by the government.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government sent an emergency disaster text message stating, "At 6:32 a.m. today, a warning alert was issued for the Seoul area. Citizens are advised to prepare for evacuation, prioritizing children and the elderly."

After the emergency disaster message was sent, citizens tried to find shelters and evacuation manuals through the Naver app, the National Disaster Safety Portal, and the Safe Stepping Stone app, as the disaster message lacked specific details such as the reason for the alert and evacuation locations.

The National Disaster Safety Portal provides guidance on actions to take during disasters and allows users to search for nearby shelters by city, county, or district through the shelter search menu. However, during this time, some connection issues occurred on the Naver app, and both the National Disaster Safety Portal and Safe Stepping Stone app experienced temporary service delays due to a surge in simultaneous users.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated, "Neither service experienced a complete functional failure," and added, "We will expand the server capacity of the Disaster Safety Portal and Safe Stepping Stone app as needed."
