Gangseo-gu, Seoul, is recruiting 100 college students for the ‘2023 Summer Vacation College Student Administrative and Welfare Experience Group.’
The district operates the ‘Administrative and Welfare Experience Group’ to provide college students residing in Gangseo-gu with opportunities for practical experience in administration and welfare as well as to earn living expenses during the vacation period. This program has been very popular among college students, with applications pouring in every year.
The recruitment consists of 30 special recruitment spots and 70 general recruitment spots, totaling 100 positions. The special recruitment targets include recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security, legally designated low-income families, registered disabled persons under the Welfare of Disabled Persons Act, and outstanding volunteers.
Eligibility requires applicants to be enrolled or on leave from a university (including junior colleges) with resident registration in Gangseo-gu as of the application start date (May 30, 2023). However, students from distance learning universities, computer institutes, lifelong education centers, or credit bank educational institutions under the Lifelong Education Act are not eligible to apply.
The application period is from 10:00 AM on May 30 to 6:00 PM on June 7. Interested applicants can apply through the ‘Integrated Reservation’ section at the top right of the Gangseo-gu Office website.
The district will select candidates randomly through a computerized lottery from among the applicants, announce the results on June 9 at 10:00 AM on the district office website’s notice board, and individually notify all applicants of the selection results.
The final selected candidates will be assigned to administrative (52 persons) or welfare (48 persons) related tasks and will work five hours a day (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM), five days a week, from July 5 to August 1.
The work will involve assisting with civil service guidance, book organization, and fieldwork support at the district office, community service centers, comprehensive social welfare centers, libraries, and other locations. Workplaces will be assigned considering applicants’ preferred departments and majors.
The district will also provide ‘experience programs’ such as volunteer activities and CPR training, as well as ‘spaces for communication and empathy’ where participants can share their experiences while working as part of the experience group.
More detailed information about application methods and working conditions can be found on the Gangseo-gu Office website under ‘Gangseo News - Notices/Announcements.’
A district official stated, “The Administrative and Welfare Experience Group is a great opportunity for college students to gain social experience and experience public services in the administrative field rather than in the classroom. We hope many young people, who will take their first step as reliable members of society in the future, show great interest and participate.”
